Low-temperature dissociative adsorption of Hydrogen on W, Mo and Ta surfaces studied with Mechanically Controllable Break-Junctions

چکیده
Mechanically Controllable Break-Junctions were used to study the physical adsorption of hydrogen molecules on the surfaces of W, Mo and Ta as well as their subsequent chemisorption and dissociation and diffusion of protons into the bulk of the material. Dissolving of hydrogen into Ta is accompanied by 1/f resistance noise with 1.2 < α < 1.7 depending on the contact

Contacting individual molecules using mechanically controllable break junctions
Among the experimental techniques employed in contacting individual molecules Mechanically Controllable Break Junctions are being frequently used. Some of the advantages are (1) straight-forward preparation of clean surfaces for anchoring the molecule; (2) the possibility to produce many different single-molecule junctions in one experiment, allowing obtaining statistical averages; (3) adapting...
متن کاملNon-Dissociative Gas Adsorption with Different Chemisorption Geometries on Nanoporous Surfaces
Isotherm equation is one of the important scientific bases for adsorbent selection. There are different isotherms that do not account for an adsorbate, different chemisorption geometries on the nanoporous surface. It is interesting to introduce a general isotherm, which considers different chemisorption geometries of an adsorbate on nanoporous surfaces. In this study, an isotherm for non-dissoci...
متن کاملAb initio molecular dynamics simulations of the adsorption of H2 on palladium surfaces
The interaction of hydrogen molecules with clean and hydrogen-precovered surfaces has been studied using ab initio molecular dynamics simulations based on density functional theory. In particular, the dependence of the dissociative adsorption probability on the hydrogen coverage and the relaxation of hot hydrogen atoms after dissociation have been addressed. The simulations unravel the crucial ...
متن کاملHydrogen Adsorption and Absorption with Pd−Au Bimetallic Surfaces
Pd−Au bimetallic catalysts have shown promising performance in numerous reactions that involve hydrogen. Fundamental studies of hydrogen interactions with Pd−Au surfaces could provide useful insights into the reaction mechanisms over Pd−Au catalysts, which may, in turn, guide future catalyst design. In this study, the interactions of hydrogen (i.e., adsorption, absorption, diffusion, and desorp...
متن کاملMethanol on O/Mo( 110): specific site for methyl radical formation
The adsorption and decomposition of methanol on the variously oxidized Mo(110) surface has been studied using temperature programmed desorption spectroscopy, Auger electron spectroscopy, low energy electron diffraction (LEED) and high-resolution electron energy loss spectroscopy (HREELS). Distinct degrees of oxidation are distinguished. That giving rise to a two-dimensional surface oxide (up to...
